Event 1 - Rebuilding The Kanza Film Festival
This will be a great event if you are interested in learning more about Drupal and networking with other Drupal users while supporting a good cause. As we will try to do with all of our events, we will teach people how to use Drupal by build a non-profit website. This seems like a good alternative to spending a couple hours building stuff that nobody will use. We will attempt to build the site from start to finish. We will start with installation and try to work our way to completion. Anything we don't finish we will either finish at the next meet up, or post the finishing steps on the site.
For this event, we will be rebuilding the The Kanza Film Festival website. They help local film makers get exposure by having film contests and other events. We will redesign and redevelop their site to incorporate their blog and also allow people to submit, rate and review the films submitted. It you are fairly new to Drupal, it should be a educational experience. If you are an experienced Drupal developer we welcome anyone to jump in during the meet up to help out.
In order to keep from slowing down the process we will record the entire build and post it on the site. This means that if you miss something, you can go back and watch the recording. This allows us to go quickly enough for experienced users and also allow new users to go back over steps.
Big thanks to the fine folks at the Johnson County Public Library for allowing us to use one of their training rooms for the event.
